Arizona Pain Stem Cell Institute to begin stem cell trial

Yesterday, the Arizona Pain Stem Cell Institute announced a new, non-randomised trial involving stem cell injections. The study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of injections containing amniotic stem cells combined with high concentrations of hyaluronic acid and growth factors in patients with "back and neck pain along with pain in the shoulder, knee, hip and sacroiliac joint".

The researchers hypothesize that the injected stem cells will repair and regenerate damaged tissue while the hyaluronic acid and the growth factors may provide additional pain relief and tissue regeneration. Anecdotal reports on the product that is about to be tested have shown it has a regenerative effect, say the researchers.

Since the trial is non-randomised, there will be no placebo group and thus all participants will receive the stem cell injections. Patients will be followed for six months after the treatment and must be over 18 to qualify for the study. The study will be conducted at the Scottsdale pain clinic.

The Institute will assist with travel arrangements and reduced fees anyone living out of the state that wishes to participate in the study.
