Nine individuals accused of selling stem cells from aborted fetuses

The Hungarian General Court is currently hearing a case in which nine defendants are accused of selling tissue material from aborted babies to a clinic offering stem cell based cosmetic procedures.

The case was heard this Wednesday and involved Hungarians and Ukrainians associated with many different clinics. According to attorney Roger Kiska, the defendants obtained tissue and embryonic stem cells from aborted fetuses from one clinic and sold them to another cosmetic clinic, based in Kaposv├ír,  where the doctors injected them into hundreds of patients, mainly from the US. The cost per injection was around $25,000

The defendants were arrested in July 2009, under the accusation of using illegally cells for commercial gain.
